Richard’s documentary work started in the 1990’s, when as a writer-director, he was a finalist in the IBM Australian Conservationist of the Year Award for the 8-part series he wrote and directed: 'On Borrowed Time' for which he also received the Landcare Media Award. He has written and directed over 200 TV commercials including the World Wildlife Fund campaign to save the Great Barrier Reef in 2013 with Bob Irwin (Father of the late Steve Irwin). And the South Australian Government campaign to save the majestic Coorong and lower reaches of the Murray River during the Murray Darling Basin legislative debate.
His documentaries have won awards at the Berlin Film Festival, as well as receiving nominations for Logies and AFI’s. He was awarded the UN Media Peace Prize for the film he directed: Rite Of Passage about young unemployed people. And Musica Surfica won nearly every surf film award it was entered in!
